Demand for novel ringtones has led to technological progress manifested in polyphonic tones. Manufactures, expecting great returns, drove these tones into the market by truckloads. In line with Say's law, supply created its own demand and everybody was seen flaunting a mobile with these new-age polyphonic tones.

Another significant offshoot of the whole development was the astronomical increase in the manufacture and purchase of state-of-the art, though costly, mobile phone handsets that were polyphone-compatible.
